Weekly Update: Carers Parliament Workshops

Nov 20, 2020

The Carers Parliament got underway this week, kicking off with two workshop days on Monday and Tuesday, and the Carer Positive team were all involved with facilitating and assisting at these workshops, as well as the webinar with Professor Jason Leitch on the Tuesday afternoon. It was extremely valuable to see so many carers being able to come together in a virtual space and share their experiences, concerns, thoughts and opinions from the past twelve months. Each of the workshops contributed two questions which will be asked to the panel at next week’s Main Event, however all of the other comments and notes from each session have been fed back and will influence the work of Carers Scotland going forward.

Booking is still open for the Carers Parliament Main Event next week - Wednesday 25th November. The Main Event consists of a Q&A session with Joe Fitzpatrick MSP, Clare Haughey MSP, Stuart Currie from COSLA and Lucinda Godfrey from Dundee Carers Centre, however there will also be a selection of information rooms and wellbeing sessions available. Pop in to see Sue from Carer Positive in the Work and Caring information room to chat about any of your work related queries. Click here to see what is available and book.

In addition to Main Event of the Carers Parliament, Carers Rights Day is next week on the 26th November. We hope that all of our Carer Positive Employers will use the day to celebrate carers and the work that they do, as well as the various ways we can support them at work and beyond!

We will be marking the day by getting involved in an event with Vocal, aimed at employers in and around Edinburgh, for tips on how to support carers in the workplace and set up a carers network. If you are an employer based in the Edinburgh area, we would love to see you there. You can click here for all of the information and register your place.
